Tabin is an enormous dipterocarp rainforest landscape in the eastern part of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo with a most diverse range of flora and fauna. Tabin was declared a wildlife reserve because of the large numbers of animal species inhabiting its forest, including several which are highly endangered. With a protected forest area of 120,500 hectares, Tabin plays an important role as a dedicated ground for the breeding of endangered wildlife and protected mammals in Sabah. Thus, Tabin has been heralded as the finest wildlife viewing area in Borneo. The three largest mammals of Sabah, namely Borneo Pygmy Elephant, Sumatera Rhinoceros and Tembadau are all found in this exclusive area!

Itinerary

Day 1: (-/L/D)

• • • am Transfer from Lahad Datu – Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road for about one hour. Check into the charming timber bungalow of Tabin Wildlife Resort which has a private balcony and hot water shower, a real luxury in the forest. Built alongside the Lipad River and nestled within the rainforest, a variety
      of birds, insects and even small mammals can be sighted quite easily within the resort. Discover the rich variety of jungle herbs, some endemic, used for
      generations by local folks for the treatment of various ailments.
    • pm In the afternoon, visit the Lipad Mud Volcano which serves as a mineral salt lick for wildlife. After trekking through the jungle for twenty minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano. Try to identify the multitude of animal footprints here. For those who are adventurous, you may try to experiment the effect of the volcanic mud which is believed to provide fine complexion. Walk up the observation tower and admire the contrasting landscape of the bare area and its surrounding thick forest where birds are commonly sighted.
    • pm After Dinner, enjoy a slide presentation on Tabin’s uniqueness, followed by a trip to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds. Enjoy the clear, dark sky of Tabin, or perhaps, you may want to make a Wish or Two!
    • pm Overnight in Resort.

Day: (B/L/D)

• • • early dawn You may opt to rise early and join the optional dawn drive (not included in package) to experience Tabin and the surrounding area’s
      pre-sunrise beauty, and look out for active wildlife. Join the morning bird walk as Tabin has a rich collection of about 300 bird species.
    • am Breakfast in Resort
    • am/pm After breakfast, trek through the lush green jungle known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad’s Waterfall.
      Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy the refreshing splash coming down from the waterfall.
    • pm Lunch/Dinner in the Resort. In the evening, enjoy & look out for Nocturnal Animals & Birds
    • pm Overnight in Resort

  • am After breakfast, stroll to the nearby rock pool or river side where groups of macaques and other small mammals can sometimes be seen. Choose to take a dip in the river or simply listen to the sound of nature.
