The Royal Selangor Pewter – which was founded by Yong Koon (an enterprising Chinaman in 1885, is famous for its beautiful pewter products made of tin, copper and antimony. Yong Koon’s dedication and commitment to excellence ensured the growing popularity of his pewter designs. In conjunction with its centenary in 1985, the artisans at Royal Selangor marked the occasion with an extraordinary feat – the production of the world’s largest tankard.
A fitting tribute to the vision of its founder, the tankard at 6.5 feet high and with a capacity of 4920 pints, was inaugurated into the Guinness Book of Records. Today, visitors to the world’s largest pewter factory can truly say they stood next to a Giant!
Batu Caves – A trip to the eastern suburbs of the city to observe the local way of life and traditional cottage industries. It will also highlight the various aspect of Malaysian life in all its diversity. FRIM – (Forest Research Institute of Malaysia) is a well managed forest science park covering almost 600 hectares of experimental plants and reforested areas. Expose yourself to the real feeling of being in the tropical rain forest of Malaysia without the hassle of travelling to National Parks. The journey to the rainforest will take about 1 hour, passing by typical Malay Villages. Upon arrival, there is a guided tour by an expert on Malaysian jungle. There are jungle trails, a walkway canopy, a herb garden, a library and a museum exhibiting different species of tropical wood and their uses. Come on down and enjoy the wonders and beauty of a primary tropical rainforest in a day!
Selayang Hot Spring or which is known locally as “Kolam Air Panas” is a very popular place among locals, elderly & children. It is believed that the mineral contents of the hot spring (Sulphur) could help in the healing process and in fact have cured visitors with illnesses like diabetes, gout, skin problems and etc.
