The Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre is situated inside a 40 sq km reserve and is a permanent sanctuary for the orang-utan (literally ‘wild man of the jungle’) that have been orphaned, injured or confiscated. There is a feeding platform for visitors to observe these beautiful primates and two daily feedings before they wander back into the forest.
Selingan Island is one of a group of uninhabited islands straddling the Malaysian and Philippine boundaries lying within the Sulu Seas. This cluster of islands namely three main nesting islands – Pulau Selingan, Pulau Bakkungan Kechil and Pulau Gulisan, covers an area of 1,740 hectares and are protected for the sole purpose of conservation and preservation of turtles and other marine animals inhabiting the area. Selingan island contains the park’s headquarters, a visitors centre, basic tourist facilities and accommodation and a turtle hatchery. These limited chalets can accommodate up to maximum of 60 persons per night. The Kinabatangan River being Sabah’s longest river is one of the most exciting and easily accessible venue to explore the rich biodiversity of Sabah. From Kampung Abai ( near the river mouth of Kinabatangan River ) to the villages of Sukau ( the lower part of Kinabatangan ) offers an incredible opportunity to enjoy a wide range of wildlife including Borneo’s Unique Proboscis Monkeys, the wild Orang Utan, Bornean Pygmy Elephants, Crocodiles, Otters, Bears, Wild Cats and countless of rare birds such as Hornbills and Oriental Darter. Abai Jungle Lodge was built in 2005 to avoid the overcrowding problem in Sukau, Kinabatangan. It is located in the Secondary Forest Reserved. In order to preserve mother nature, all the walkways are made from hard wood which is known as “Belian”. There are only 18 simple and basic rooms and all these rooms are equipped with attached bathrooms, ceiling fan, hot shower, smoke detector, emergency action plan and netted windows. Furthermore, Reversed Osmosis Purifier System, Kimberly-Clark Biodegradable and Environmentally friendly shampoo, soap and toilet papers are being utilized over here. Other facility such as Abai Jungle Restaurant ( which is situated 47 km from the river mouth of Kinabatangan River and the longest river in Sabah) was set up for our in-house guests. Sit back, relax and enjoy 1 hour of boat ride cruising along Sabah’s longest river!
Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge ( Sukau ) is one of the lodge that has been set up in 1994. The new wing with 33 rooms (15 Twin Room / 6 Triple Rooms / 8 Double Bed Rooms / 4 Family Rooms ) were completed in Nov 2007. Facilities such as Jetty Tower, New Bird Tower, New Frog Platform and a open sun deck facing to the Kinabatangan River were also being further improved. / Our rooms are upgraded with 42 inch width beds and 8 inches mattresses. ( All rooms with equipped with Attached Bathroom/ Hot Shower/Ceiling Fan/ Windows fully covered with Mosquito Net/ Smoke Detector / Emergency Evacuation Plan )

Itinerary
Day 1: (-/L/D) Selingan Turtle Island

- 0800 Pick-up from Hotel / Sandakan Airport ( MH2042) Transfer to the Sandakan seafront where a speed boat will take you to Selingan island.
Boat journey is approximately one hour. - am/pm Check into simple accommodation facility. Relax by the beach or take up snorkel at the nearby reefs.
- pm After dinner, Park Ranger will signal the appropriate time to view huge Green turtles coming ashore to lay eggs. Observe the eggs being
transferred to hatchery. Offer help to release baby turtles and be overwhelmed by the emotion of seeing the turtles rushing to the sea by
some natural instinct. Since the introduction of a conservative program in Selingan island in 1967, a large number of turtles are now
returning to lay their eggs and the chance to see the sea creature is almost certain every night. - pm Overnight in Selingan Island Resort.

Day 2: (B/L/D) Sepilok Orang Utan/Fireflies

- am After breakfast. Check out from hotel & transfer back to Sandakan. En route, visit the wild man of Borneo at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre located in a tropical lowland forest.
- 1000 Upon arrival, proceed to the feeding platform and observe at close range orphaned Orang Utan being rehabilitated under a successful
conservation program. Be amazed by the gentleness and intelligence of this man-like primate. Visit the Nature Education Centre to learn more about the Orang Utan and its environment. - 1100 Depart from Sepilok and transfer to Sandakan Jetty
- 1145 Enjoy 1 hour boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the
waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest - pm Lunch

- am After Breakfast, you may join in with the tree planting project with the locals and mingle freely with them at Abai Village. This project is especially arranged to help the locals.

- pm Next take a 2 hours riverboat ride to view Proboscis monkeys found gathering at the riverbanks as a daily routine. See them launch from tree to tree with the occasional missed landing which ends them in the river.

- pm Late afternoon, you may take another motorized river cruise to Menanggul River (a small tributary of the Kinabatangan)

Check out from resort. Next, explore the largest bird’s nest cave in Sabah, which is home to millions of Bats & Swiftlets. Continue journey to Sandakan for a city tour. Visit various landmarks and historical points in Sandakan, known once as the “little Hong Kong.” Visit the huge Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple for a panoramic view of Sandakan Town. - pm After Lunch, transfer to Sandakan City/Hotel/Airport (MH 2709)
